Graduate Degrees in Disaster Science and Emergency Management

At the graduate level, we emphasize and develop the ability to formulate theory to explain the incidence of problems, to use that theory to make logical predictions about possible future problems, and to understand how to shape policy around those predictions to influence future outcomes.

  • Our Master of Emergency Management (MEM) is professionally-focused. The MEM requires 36 graduate credit hours. Courses are delivered in three major areas of knowledge – Context & Management, The Disaster Environment and Disaster Operations.
  • The Master of Disaster Science (MDS) is a more theoretical experience with an academic focus. The MDS requires 36 graduate credit hours. Two new courses on war, terrorism and conflict and on the effects of globalism on disaster prevention and recovery have been recently added to the program.
  • Our Graduate Certificate in Disaster Science is a concentrated course of study for students seeking professional development who are unable to commit to a full graduate degree, designed to supplement existing knowledge, skills and abilities.
