Student Government Association

Welcome from SGA President

Welcome to the School of Continuing Studies Student Government Association website! The mission of the SGA is to sponsor events throughout the year designed to bring SCS faculty, staff, and students together. Some of our events include socials and gatherings at athletic events, and we also provide snacks to students during exam time. SGA encourages you to take advantage of opportunities to meet your peers, as well as the faculty and staff of SCS, and support each other in accomplishing personal goals and objectives.

Communication is vital to the mission of the SGA. We use every means possible to communicate events and important announcements to our students including the SGA website, email, and Spiderbytes announcements. Set up your University of Richmond email account as soon as possible by visiting http://is.richmond.edu/email. If it is easier to check email at work, you have the option of re-directing your email to that address.

We invite you to become a volunteer with the SGA by serving on a committee or becoming a SGA officer, once you have completed nine credit hours in the School of Continuing Studies. It is also our hope that you will continue your involvement with both the School and the University once you graduate by joining the UC/SCS Alumni Association. Visit http://scs.richmond.edu/alumni for more information.

Contact me if you have any suggestions for programs or events that will get students more involved in SGA. All the best for a productive and rewarding academic experience.

What is the SGA?

SGA stands for Student Government Association and there is a chapter for the School of Continuing Studies. The SGA is made up of members of the School of Continuing Studies’ student body. The SGA members volunteer their time to promote SCS through classroom interaction, social events, newsletters, and Spiderbytes. The members strive to promote harmony to all facets of SCS including students, faculty, and staff.

Support UC/SCS Alumni Association-SCS SGA Scholarship

In the fall of 2007, the UC/SCS Alumni Association and SCS SGA joined forces to establish the UC/SCS Alumni Association-SCS Student Government Association Scholarship. It is the shared mission of our organizations to help students achieve their educational goals. We feel strongly that the partnership between students and alumni created by this effort will foster a culture of giving that will benefit our students, alumni, and the school.

Contributions may be sent to Virginia Carlson, Director of External Relations, School of Continuing Studies, 28 Westhampton Way, University of Richmond, VA 23173 or online at giving.richmond.edu/give. On behalf of the UC/SCS Alumni Association and SCS SGA, thank you for your support!
