University of Richmond

Professional Development

The School of Continuing Studies offers professional development courses that enable students to learn new skills, explore new careers or brush up on existing skills.

Individual Classes

SCS offers classes in career development and enhancement, communications and writing and computer skills that are open to the general public and do not require an application. Students can design their own schedules depending on individual interest and availability.

Certificate Programs

SCS offers certificates in landscape design, interior decorating and non-profit philanthropy. Students may pursue the certificates or take courses individually. Certificates require a series of classes in which students may enroll as schedules allow. Some programs require an application.

With the completion of each course, students are awarded continuing education units to demonstrate the time and effort they have dedicated to their professional development.

Professional Studies

SCS offers the Professional Series in Entrepreneurship, a credit-earning series of undergraduate classes to Richmond-area entrepreneurs and business owners. The series focuses on marketing and managing entrepreneurial enterprises.

Online Courses and Certificates

SCS offers many courses through online partners. Our partners provide online professional development courses, continuing education coursework and certificates in business, home inspection, tax preparation, the music industry and a variety of other subjects and careers.
