Course Work for Aspiring and Current Educators
Prepare for Teacher Licensure, Get Recertified or Earn Your M.Ed. The School of Continuing Studies offers three tracks of education course work.
Our Graduate Certificate in Teacher Licensure Preparation prepares students who already have an undergraduate degree -- or who are currently enrolled in the School's Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree -- to apply for Virginia Department of Education teacher licensure.
Our Professional Development for Educators series offers current educators graduate course work that may be applied to Virginia Department of Education relicensure. These courses are held in local schools throughout Greater Richmond at convenient times for educators.
Our Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction offers licensed, practicing classroom teachers the opportunity to earn an advanced academic degree in curriculum and instruction while continuing to teach full-time.
Eligiblity Requirements
- Teacher Licensure Preparation
- Earned bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
-or-
- Current Bachelor of Liberal Arts student in the Evening School
- Minimum GPA of 2.7 on all college and university academic work attempted
- Passing Praxis scores
- Professional Development course work
- Current educator seeking professional development
- Master of Education (M.Ed.)
- Intitial teacher licensure with two years successful teaching experience
- Earned bachelor's degree with minimum 3.3 GPA on previous work
- Passing examination scores
- Recommendations and interview
