Certificate Programs
In addition to degrees, the School of Continuing Studies offers a variety of credit and noncredit certificates through its Evening School and Office of Community and Professional Education.

Academic Certificates
All academic certificates are recognized as degree programs by the University of Richmond.
Graduate Certificates
- Teacher Licensure Preparation — requires an undergraduate degree and offers 16 to 19 graduate credit hours of education courses along with 14 hours of student teaching and related seminar credit.
- Educational Leadership and Policy Studies - requires a master's degree and 3 years of professional experience; offers classroom and practicum experience to become a school leader in Virginia.
- Disaster Science — requires 12 graduate credit hours.
- Human Resource Management — requires 18 graduate credit hours from among HRM and related courses.
Undergraduate Certificates
- Information Systems — requires an undergraduate degree and offers 21 undergraduate credit hours from among ISYS and related courses, including the capstone course.
- Leadership — open to qualified applicants and offers 21 undergraduate credit hours in leadership studies.
- Paralegal Studies — requires an undergraduate degree and offers 21 undergraduate credit hours from legal assistant and law courses, including the capstone course.
Personal & Professional Certificates
We also offer a variety of noncredit certificate programs through Think Again, our catalog personal enrichment and professional development classes. These include:
- Culinary Arts Program Certificate — An exciting, hands-on series of classes for home cooks looking to expand their knowledge.
- Institute on Philanthropy Certificates — The Fundraising and Development Certificate and Nonprofit Marketing Certificate are offered for those seeking to expand their knowledge in the fields of philanthropy, fundraising and nonprofit marketing.
- Landscape Design Professional Certificate Program — Focused on training individuals to work independently as professional designers of small-scale landscapes, this certificate program focuses on horticulture, nursery and planting standards, and the creative process of landscape design.
- Interior Design Certificates — A 10-class certificate and advanced 11-class certificate are intended to augment creative talent and provide noncredit opportunities for those interested in interior decorating as a profession.
- Online Professional Certificates — SCS offers several noncredit certificate programs through its partnerships with JER Online and Gatlin Education Services. These certificates are awarded by the partner institution.
