Academic Advising

An academic advisor will help you plan a degree or course of study suited to your needs. You are urged to use this service since information about programs and University regulations is important to your academic success. For an appointment, contact an academic advisor at 804-289-8133.

If you have immediate questions about a program or credit course, refer to the applicable School of Continuing Studies catalog or program coordinator.

Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers)

How can I request program information?

If you'd like information about degree and certificate programs, including graduate programs, complete the Evening School Information Request form.

If you'd like information about noncredit classes for professional development and/or personal enrichment, complete the Professional Development and Personal Enrichment Information Request form. This includes inquiries about the Think Again catalog, Culinary Arts Program, the Landscape Design Certificate, and the Institute on Philanthropy.

If you'd like information about lifelong learning for students over the age of 50, complete the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Information Request form.

If you'd like information about summer studies, including Summer School and Summer Study Abroad, complete the Summer Studies Information Request form.

For all inquiries, you may also call the School at 804-289-8133 and leave your name and address for program information.

How much is each credit/class?

The Office of the University Bursar publishes all tuition and fee information for classes that appear in the Evening School catalog. Visit the Bursar's Office Web site and select the "School of Continuing Studies" menu item.

Tuition and fees for other programs, including Office of Community and Professional Education programs, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and Summer Studies, are published in their respective catalogs and schedules.

Are scholarships available?

Yes. Most are available after 12 hours completed in a degree program. However, one scholarship for degree-seeking students has no credit requirement. Refer to the Financial Aid information page for more details.

Where can I find CLEP information?

Visit the College Board Web site (www.collegeboard.org) or call the Virginia Commonwealth University test center (804-828-8420) for test dates. The University of Richmond school code for registration is #5569. Refer to the Alternative Ways to Earn Credit page for more details.

How many hours may I transfer into the School of Continuing Studies?

In general, you may transfer up to 60 from a regionally accredited program. However, details differ from academic program to academic program. Refer to the Alternative Ways to Earn Credit page and the individual Evening School Academic Programs page for more details.

What are the admission requirements for entrance into the School of Continuing Studies?

You must have a 2.0 GPA or be accepted under a "conditional admit" (meaning you have not attended school full-time within the past five years or you bring in a GPA below 2.0). Refer to the Admissions page for more details.

Is financial aid available?

Yes. Contact the University of Richmond Office of Financial Aid (804-289-8438) and review the School of Continuing Studies Finances page for additional information.

What is my Student Identification Number for BannerWeb?

The University has assigned all users 8-digit identification numbers. You should receive your student identification number by mail directly from the School of Continuing Studies after applying. Until Spring 2005 you may also use your Social Security number as your identification number. Call 804-289-8639 if you have problems with your Student I.D.

What is my PIN for BannerWeb?

Your initial PIN (personal identification number) is your birth date in the format MMDDYY. If your PIN doesn't work or if you've forgotten it, call the Office of the Registrar (804-289-8639).

Does the School offer career counseling for students?

The School of Continuing Studies has contracted with ReadyMinds for free online and telephone career counseling. Review the Career Counseling page for registration details and additional information.
