About the School of Continuing Studies Student Government Association (SCS SGA)
The School of Continuing Studies Student Government Association (SCS SGA) is made up of members of the School of Continuing Studies' student body, supervised by an administrative board that meets regularly. The SGA is governed by its constitution and bylaws
.
The mission of SGA is to promote and organize events and activities throughout the academic year designed to engage SCS students with each other as well as with the campus community.
SGA events include socials, group attendance at Spider sports events, Exam Week Snack at the end of the fall and spring semesters and other events that utilize academic resources available on campus.
SGA encourages students to support one another in accomplishing academic and personal goals by taking advantage of opportunities to meet peers, members of the SCS faculty and staff and other members of the greater University community.
President's Welcome & Announcements
The SGA welcomes you to the School of Continuing Studies and the University of Richmond!
Whether you are new to college, returning to complete a degree, or changing careers, we are eager to help you complement your classroom experience. Our mission is to promote student involvement and make your educational experience as memorable as possible. We encourage you to take a vital role in ensuring that we best serve the interests of the students and improve the quality of the overall academic experience.
You are invited to become a member of the SGA, attend monthly meetings, participate in organized events, and build new and lasting friendships. You will find that joining SGA will provide you with opportunities to serve on committees, be a voice for student interests, engage with faculty and staff, develop great UR pride and school spirit, and enrich your overall academic experience.
Serving on the SGA Board is one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had on campus! It is such a great pleasure and honor to work with the SGA, staff and faculty, alumni, and most importantly, the students. I have great pride in being a SCS student and representative for SGA, and I hope you will take the time to me with your questions, concerns, or simply to introduce yourself. I look forward to opening my email and hearing from you! Go Spiders!
- Karren O'Connell, 2009/2010 SCS SGA president

SCS Representation on University-wide Committees
The SGA president represents SCS on the following University-wide committees
- Student Presidents' Council - The University of Richmond Presidents' Council serves as a communication liaison among the school student governments (SCS SGA, Jepson School, Law School, Richmond College, Robins School and Westhampton College). The Council will communicate student government issues/business with one another in order to ensure support and understanding among all colleges. In addition, the Presidents' Council will serve as a reporting body for student representatives selected/elected to serve on important university committees.
- Bias Response Team - The University of Richmond is committed to being a diverse and inclusive community, strengthened intellectually and socially by the range of knowledge, opinion, belief, political perspective and background of its members, whether of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability status, age, religious affiliation, economic status or geographic origin (The Richmond Promise, Principle II). Because bias activity has the potential to adversely affect the members of the University community and to undermine the climate of civility and respect necessary to achieve and maintain a diverse and inclusive community, the University has developed a protocol designed to supplement existing University policies and policies and procedures and to coordinate University resources in response to complaints of bias activity. http://commonground.richmond.edu/bias/protocol.html
The SCS Alumni Association-SCS SGA Scholarship
In the fall of 2007, the SCS Alumni Association and SCS SGA joined forces to establish the SCS Alumni Association-SCS Student Government Association Scholarship. It is the shared mission of our organizations to help students achieve their educational goals. We feel strongly that the partnership between students and alumni created by this effort will foster a culture of giving that will benefit our students, alumni, and the school.
